SchoolDirectNg reports that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), may extend it’s strike action by another two weeks if the Federal Government does not honour their full demands.
The Union confirmed stating that demands met by the government are the payment of minimum wage arrears for the polytechnic striking lecturers and the release of a normative instrument for institutional accreditation, a policy document for international standards.
According to ASUP President, Anderson Ezeibe, who communicated this to news agencies recently, said the government had met only two of the five key demands of the union. He said ” the key demands we were expecting from the Federal Government has not been met , the key demands are the release of the N15 billion revitalization fund, which he said President Muhammadu Buhari approved last year, and the release of a scheme of service.
He added “the Federal government has turned a back ear to our group’s outcry against the victimization of ASUP members in the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.
Lastly, he said ” we are giving the Federal Government this week to settle our demands or else we would declare an infinite strike that will cripple the educational system Nationwide.
