This means that the JAMB general Cut Off Mark for all Institutions Nationwide is synonymous. But that of the POST-UTME and Departmental Cut-Off Marks for any institution Nationwide is differential.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JAMB, POST-UTME AND DEPARTMENTAL CUT-MARKS FOR ANY INSTITUTION NATIONWIDE ?
According to the Management of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has defined Cut-Off Mark as the minimum score or bench mark a candidate who is seeking for admission into any tertiary institutions in Nigeria such as Universities, Polytechnics, Monotechnic and College of Education must have in (JAMB UTME) before he or she will be qualified to participate in the Post UTME screening exercise conducted by his or her school. It should be noted that the (JAMB UTME ) Cut-Off Mark or point decided by JAMB is not the same as the Departmental or Institutional CUT-Off Mark set by the institution.

The POST-UTME Cut-Off Mark also called Aptitude Test Cut-Off Mark or Institutional Cut-off Mark is a minimum score or point a candidate who is seeking for admission into his her institution must have in JAMB UTME Result , before he or she can be allowed to purchase the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (POST-UTME) Screening form for admission. If a candidate score in JAMB , does not meet up with the Institutional Cut-off Mark set by the institution, such candidate would not be allowed to participate in the POST-UTME Screening exercise.
The screening exercises may be in form of an examination or an online screening. Let’s get to know their differences too below :
POST-UTME EXAMINATIONS : This is a screening exercise in which a certain number of registered candidates are expected to write an examination that is set by the school. This helps to test the candidates intellectual abilities and to ensure a unique qualifications for its Admission processes. During this phase , all registered candidates that are residing at different locations, will be asked to come to the school to sit for the POST-UTME exams as scheduled.
POST-UTME ONLINE SCREENING : This is also another phase of Screening exercise adopted by some Universities Nationwide , in which a certain number of registered candidates are expected to Submit their documents via online to the school database for admission processing. Please notes that ,during this phase, candidates are not expected to travel to the school to submit the required documents but can do it at their respective locations through online processes.
The Departmental Cut-Off Marks are always released by the institution which is set by the different departments in the school. Each department has its own different Cut-Off Marks ,it is the responsibility of a candidate who is seeking for admission into his or her Institution to know the previous departmental cut-off marks first, before applying for the institution.
For a candidate to gain Admission into his or her respective Institution to study a particular course , he or she must pass via these three stages ( JAMB, POST-UTME AND DEPARTMENTAL CUT-MARKS). He or she must ensure that the JAMB, POST-UTME and Departmental Cut-Off Marks are cleared with High Scores.
